The Millstone Supper Club ( Old Grist Mill)

As I’m finally getting caught up on the blog, I realized this amazing dinner somehow never made it onto the page. We actually visited The Millstone Supper Club a few months ago, so some of the finer details have faded a bit, but the one thing I remember clearly is how much we enjoyed the entire evening.

One of our favorite parts of traveling is discovering great restaurants, but it’s even better when you get to share the experience with good friends 30 minutes from home. For this dinner, we met up with our fellow foodies and honorary guest Spooners, Lauren and Bryan. Great food is always memorable, but pairing it with great conversation and plenty of laughs makes it even better.

The Millstone Supper Club isn’t your typical restaurant. Set in the lower level of the Grist Mill, it’s a chef’s tasting experience where the menu changes every couple of weeks based on what’s in season. Every course is carefully planned, and from the moment we walked through the doors, we knew this wasn’t going to be an ordinary dinner.

The restaurant had a warm, intimate atmosphere with stone walls, soft lighting, and four beautifully set tables. It felt elegant without being pretentious…….a place where you could appreciate incredible food while still feeling completely comfortable.

Our waiter (whose name unfortunately escapes me) was fantastic. He struck that perfect balance of being attentive without hovering. He was always nearby when we needed something but never made us feel rushed. At the beginning of the evening, he explained how dinner would work. The Supper Club features a three-course chef-driven menu, and for each course we could choose from a couple of different options. As each dish was served, he took the time to explain the ingredients and preparation, making the meal feel like an experience rather than just another dinner.

For the first course, the table was split between the Market Salad and the Lobster Arancini.

The Market Salad featured fresh berries, baby arugula, crisp cucumbers, layered with fragrant mint and a medley of microgreens, finished with a Parmesan crisp and a bright lemon-poppyseed vinaigrette. It looked as fresh as it tasted.

Jessica, Bryan opted for the Lobster Arancini, and they agreed it was outstanding. Maine lobster was folded into creamy risotto, lightly breaded and fried until perfectly crisp, then served over a slow-roasted tomato sauce and finished with fragrant basil. It looked fantastic but it’s always a hard pass on seafood for me.

For the main course, we had a choice between Tuna Provençale, Short Rib Ravioli, or an upgrade to the Côte de Boeuf. Between the four of us, we ordered both the ravioli and the filet special that evening, so naturally we sampled each other’s plates.

The Short Rib Ravioli was incredible. The pasta was perfectly cooked and filled with savory, slow-braised short rib. It was served in a rich wild mushroom sauce and finished with crème fraîche and fresh chives. Every bite was rich, comforting, and packed with flavor. I would be happy eating that once a week!

The filet was equally impressive. It was perfectly tender and cooked exactly as ordered. Served alongside creamy, buttery mashed potatoes and perfectly cooked green beans, it was one of those meals that reminds you how satisfying simple ingredients can be when they’re prepared well.

Before dessert, our waiter brought out a refreshing mango sorbet as a palate cleanser. It was light, bright, and just enough to reset our taste buds before the final course.

Dessert offered two choices: an Espresso Panna Cotta or a Berry Tartlet.

The Espresso Panna Cotta was silky smooth with deep espresso flavor, mascarpone, chocolate-covered espresso beans, and delicate curls of dark chocolate…………..a dream for anyone who loves coffee and chocolate together. Me, me , and me !!!!

The Berry Tartlet featured a crisp pastry shell filled with silky vanilla pastry cream, topped with fresh berries and finished with crushed pistachios. It was light, fresh, and the perfect ending to the meal. Well….we thought this was the end.

As if that wasn’t enough, we were also treated to handmade chocolates and delicate macarons to finish the evening on a sweet note. At that point, I think we were all ready to burst! Just fantastic! 🙂

If memory serves me correctly, the experience was around $90 per person before tax, beverages, and gratuity. While that may seem like a splurge for dinner, all four of us agreed it was well worth it. You’re not just paying for a meal, you’re paying for an evening. From the thoughtfully prepared courses and exceptional service to the atmosphere and unhurried pace, it truly felt like an upgraded dining experience.

One thing to keep in mind is that reservations are required, and seating is intentionally limited to parties of no more than 4, creating a more personalized experience for every guest.

Since the menu changes every couple of weeks, no two visits are exactly alike. If you’re thinking about making a reservation, I recommend checking out the Old Grist Mill Tavern Facebook page or visiting the Millstone Supper Club website to see the current menu and available reservation dates before you go.

We’ll definitely be back. There are too many new menus to try, and honestly, any excuse to spend another evening enjoying great food with great friends is an easy yes in our book.

We hope you will give this VIP experience a try and don’t forget to tell them that Two Girls Spooning sent you! 🙂

Happy Spooning!

Sara and Jessica
